EHR implementation is a complex undertaking. As with other complex software systems, the implementation failure rate can be as high as 50%. Avoiding failure requires adhering to a very strict, well-planned process. A successful implementation requires a thorough understanding of the workings of an organization's clinical, business, and administrative processes as well as its resources. If this information is not available in a detailed, usable format moving forward with an implementation is unlikely to meet with success. There are two potential starting situations for an EHR implementation.
Our EHR selection process consists of six steps: problem/goal definition, needs assessment, process analysis, requirements analysis, product evaluation, and contract negotiation. From these six steps three documents are created: needs assessment report, requirements specification, and the request for proposal(RFP). Each of these documents represents a milestone in the consulting process.
